about

Sometime around the last recession I decided to retire from music and concentrate on more financially sustaining pursuits. As with other such retirement declarations within a few years I was back at it doing what I do, writing songs and looking for folks to help me bring them to life. Unfortunately at that time the resources of time and money kept this music from being recorded and before long this oRSo period had passed and I was living in another State far from my collaborators. I thought the music was lost to the ages until I was doing some covid work in my archive and realized I had two wonderful live recordings that could be used to document this period. The recording was done at Transistor in Chicago which is a lovely art gallery, book and music store, studio and performance space on Chicago's north side. There are two different quartets from two different shows with Caroline Davis as the link between the two. Thank you to Andy Miles for creating such a great environment and allowing us to play there and thank you to Jon Monteverde for doing sound and recording the shows. The shows took place on both ends of 2013 one in February and the other in November. As always thanks to the musicians for making my shells into songs.

about

oRSo Monroe, Washington

The musical outlet for phil spirito since 1998.

backwoods banjos and guitars, horns and strings, vocals soft and also screeching, melancholy mashed up circus music, screwy odd number time signatures, eno-ish instrumental stylings, chamber folk with jazz undertones, piled high with plush pillows and extra slow tempos that often seem to imply and lead into surreal deeply colorful dreamscapes ... more
