about

Journey into the world of the first egg. The origin of the first egg is unknown. Did it come into existence on its own or was it laid by some ancient creature? The egg has certain mystical properties and influence over those that possess it. As the egg moves between individuals it affects them all differently and it seems compelled to travel away from some and towards others.

In 2005 I started a project as a way to honor the passage into my 41st year. I started by making a movie using a Canon ELPH SD200 and an imac DV. Then I assembled the biggest collection of binto family musicians that had gathered before or since to create the soundtrack. The band called the oRSorchestra of course, ended up having fifteen members. Although there have always been instrumental songs in the oRSo songbook this was the first complete instrumental only project. On July 15th the full band performed the live soundtrack to one of only two public showings of the movie at a converted church in Humboldt Park, Chicago called 3030 run by Elastic Arts.

That same weekend the giant band went into the the Four Deuces studio to record the entire piece with Jim Mcgranahan engineering. The recording was mixed over the next couple years with the goal of completing the movie for some kind of release. Upon completion the movie was shelved until it was posted on the oRSo youtube channel in 2017.

In spring 2007 a smaller oRSo band traveled to San Francisco to perform the music for another screening of the movie at Artists Television Access. This performance was recorded by Fred Jardin on video and is also posted on the oRSo youtube channel.

about

oRSo Monroe, Washington

The musical outlet for phil spirito since 1998.

backwoods banjos and guitars, horns and strings, vocals soft and also screeching, melancholy mashed up circus music, screwy odd number time signatures, eno-ish instrumental stylings, chamber folk with jazz undertones, piled high with plush pillows and extra slow tempos that often seem to imply and lead into surreal deeply colorful dreamscapes ... more
